My writing is terrible. I'm a pantser who's written one unpublished novel, but I think my writing is just plain poor. What can I do to improve? You're on the right track, believe it or not. Self-doubt can help you improve your job (to some extent), but don't let it paralyze you. Perhaps only a few people should see your essay. Include a teacher or a voracious reader in your group. Take only constructive feedback and allow your abilities to develop. I've known far too many knuckleheads who thought highly of themselves but never achieved anything.
