Instruction:
Students learn about the steelpan musical instrument voices, including their cultural origins from Trinidad. They help choose the music they play.


We employ two teaching methods:
Trinidad's traditional method involves the students being shown their parts and listening carefully to what they and the other students are playing. They then learn to feel the beat while listening, in order to learn rhythm. This method enables students to learn to play easily and quickly which inspires them to want to learn more and invites self-expression.


Conventional music instruction and theory is applied to steelpan and steelband. Students learn how Steelpan instruments relate to conventional musical instruments, bands, and orchestras.
Students play on professional quality steelpans, masterfully tuned, so that they can learn the proper playing technique to produce beautiful tones. The sound the students make on their instruments motivates them to practice and aspire to excellence.


Learning and playing is fun, and the sound students produce while making music they enjoy is exciting.
