Word of caution, however: Retailers may have a limited supply of sizes and colors by then. “Black Friday is not the time to go shopping for wooly scarves,” says Shapiro of GottaDeal.com, which collects and posts Black Friday ads from around 75 retailers a year. “The best winter clothing sales will be in the New Year,” he says. There will also be few doorbusters on luxury goods. Neiman Marcus won’t release any planned promotion details until Nov. 27. Tiffany &amp; Co. avoids the rush and has a policy of not offering discounts. Saks Fifth Avenue has 40% off selected garments and “buy one, get one free” offers on some menswear. “It’s much better to get jewelry and watches in December, when retailers panic and try to sell their overstock, says Brad Wilson, the founder of sale site BradsDeals.com. Big-box retailers and mid-price stores, he says, remain the big stars of Black Friday. “Luxury leather goods and cashmere will be discounted closer to the holiday,” Cohen says.
